Upcycle Sewing: Denim Catnip Toys

Want to practice your sewing skills beyond our basics class? In this workshop, we will upcycle denim jeans, shorts, offcuts and scraps — into catnip kickers! You can make standard tubes or free hand shapes, like fishes. These make excellent holiday gifts.

(Photos are inspiration from etsy, we’ll have some demos made in-house too)

We will supply: Sewing machines, thread, basic notions, cotton batting, and catnip.

You bring: clean denim to be cut and turned into toys. Recommended 100% cotton (very stiff) and minimal spandex or lycra stretch. You are welcome to thrift something and bring it. We will freehand design these kickers based on the scrap sizes you bring to class. Pieces should be at least 8×8 inches minimum.

Prerequisites: ability to thread and operate a domestic sewing machine, knowledge of how to maintain an even seam allowance when joining fabric. Open to ages 13+
