Laser Maps: Roads

Welcome to Laser Map making! In this class, you’ll discover how to turn real-world map data into custom designs ready for laser cutting. Whether you’re recreating the grid of your hometown or plotting your favorite hiking trail, you’ll learn how to bring maps to life in a creative and tangible way.

This class intends to provide an introductory lesson into the workings of the cartography program QGIS and the QuickOSM plugin to query Open Street Map data. You’ll learn how to create a vectorized form of your map which can be turned into lasercut art.

Throughout the lesson you will be working along with the instructor to begin construction on your own maps followed by free work time in which the instructor will be around to answer any technical questions you may have.

Pre-requisites: Laser Cutter Certification

Minimum Age: 14 years old (ages 14-17 must have guardian present).

What we’ll provide: 90W laser cutter, all required software, technical instruction specific to your map

What you should bring: A can-do attitude!
