Handbuilding Pottery: Make a Planter and Tray

Join us for an introduction to handbuilding pottery! This timeless craft lets you mold and shape raw clay into stunning, functional pieces using just your hands and a few simple tools. Handbuilding offers a direct, intimate connection with the material and endless opportunities for creativity.

In this class, you will learn ceramic slab rolling techniques, including how to add textures, apply underglazes, and choose the final glaze color. Using our textured slabs, we will create unique handbuilt plant pots with trays. Discover the joy of handbuilding pottery with us!

What you will create: Each participant will make their own plant pot with tray. Final pieces will be ready for pick up approximately 2 weeks after class.

Whom it’s for: Anyone aged 8+ (youth 8-16 must have a guardian present). No experience necessary. Open to members and non-members.

What we’ll provide: We will provide all materials needed including clay, texture tools, underglaze, glaze, and painting and handbuilding supplies. Note that this class does not involve use of the pottery wheel.

What to bring:  Wear comfortable clothes you don’t mind getting dirty and non-slip shoes.

Please sign up at least 24 hours in advance. To check availability within 24 hours of this event’s start time, call (206) 659-1726.
