You know how to use a sewing machine, and now you want to keep learning and keep making. In this short class, you’ll learn the very basics of apparel sewing.
You’ll understand how to read a pattern envelope and how to pick the right project, fabric, size, notions and more. We’ll go over the basics of using a sewing machine for clothes, such as different stitches, stitch length, zig zag, some feet, and, more importantly, how to quickly and safely rip out stitches. You’ll start your skill building with a small sample project.
Students will get a resource list of local, regional and online fabric stores, pattern companies with free or low cost PDF downloadable patterns, and a brief intro to printing/projecting PDF patterns.
Whom it’s for: Anyone aged 8+ (youth 8-16 must have a guardian present). Experience with the basics of a sewing machine, e.g. completion of our “Sewing Machine Basics” class.
What we’ll provide: Sewing machines, thread, scissors, pins and fabric.
What to bring: Students are welcome to bring an apparel pattern they want to make in the future. They are encouraged to bring some fabric.
