Embroidery Machine Basics

Curious about the Brother SE600 embroidery machines at the makerspace? This class will demystify the embroidery machine and software, setting you up to design and execute your own custom embroidery!

You will get an overview of the basics of design in the embroidery software Hatch, how to transfer a design from the computer to the embroidery machine via USB thumb drive, and how to stitch your design with the machine. Unfortunately, due to the software license restrictions, there will only be a demo of the software from the instructor, students may not be able to use the software live unless they bring their own windows-based laptop and sign up for the free 30-day trial. After the course, the instructor will send out a list of resources for learning how to use the software on your own. There is a laptop at Seattle Makers for the use of Hatch within the studio space.

The first half of the class will be learning the software and how to export your design to the embroidery machine, with the second half for you to learn how to use the machine to embroider onto fabric; hoop your fabric/garment and learn what are the best practices when using stabilizer, needles, thread, etc.

Whom it’s for: Anyone aged 11+ (youth 11-16 must have a guardian present) with basic sewing machine knowledge. Prior basic experience with a sewing machine is recommended but not required (threading the machine, loading a bobbin, etc.). If you’ve taken Sewing Machine Basics at Seattle Makers then you are good to go!

What we’ll provide: Computers and software, embroidery machine, thread, and backing material.

What to bring: A can-do attitude!

Note: If the link to purchase a spot in the class says “Restricted,” it means you don’t yet have the necessary background information on file at Seattle Makers. Reach out to the instructor at ollenz@gmail.com if you’ve taken the necessary course or have the required experience and we will get your profile updated!

Please sign up at least 24 hours in advance. To check availability within 24 hours of this event’s start time, call (206) 659-1726.
