CNC Design 101: Intro to VCarve

In this class, you will be introduced to the basics of the Computer Aided Design (CAD) to Computer Aided Machining (CAM) programs VCarve Pro. This will help enable you to get your designs to various Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machines, including our wood CNC mill.

CNC machines need directions to move the cutting head similar to how a car needs directions to drive to a store. Our CAD files are the map and V-Carve helps us make the directions for the CNC machine from those files.

Using a couple of files, you’ll learn the basic workflow for both vector files, how to pick feed and speed rates, and set up tabs to help hold your part in place.

Equipment and Software: Vectric VCarve Pro
Skills: This class will cover the basics of importing files, and creating CNC programs using VCarve Pro
What you’ll be able to to do by the end of the certification: You’ll leave with resources to design your own unique 3d products.
What we provide: Vector designs. Tuition also includes client copy of program VCarve: Makerspace edition
What to bring: USB drive to transfer files between machines
