In this introductory class you will learn how to use the Arduino IDE to upload code for a simple circuit that controls some LEDs. More importantly, we’ll show you how to find all the resources you need to learn how to build more complicated projects yourself.

What is Arduino?

Arduino is an open-source electronics platform based on easy-to-use hardware and software. Arduino boards are able to read inputs – light on a sensor, a finger on a button, or a Twitter message – and turn it into an output – activating a motor, turning on an LED, publishing something online. You can tell your board what to do by sending it a set of instructions in the Arduino programming language using the Arduino Software (IDE). Over the years Arduino has been the brain of thousands of projects, from everyday objects to complex scientific instruments, by a worldwide community of makers – students, hobbyists, artists, programmers, and professionals.

Who is this class for?

This class is aimed at absolute beginners; no prior programming or electronics experience necessary!

What should I bring?

Everything you need for the class is already included: a computer running the Arduino IDE, and an Arduino kit to borrow for use in the class.  If you’d like, you can purchase the kit to take home and continue experimenting.

Minimum Age: 11 y/o with guardian.

Pre-requisites: basic computer and text editing skills
