This is a bi-weekly sewing class with the project changing based on community interest. This week’s project will be: Your own fitted mask!
Curious about sewing but have found the task daunting? This class will demystify the sewing machine and set you up for sewing success!
You will learn the components of a sewing machine, terminology, operating a sewing machine, threading a machine, bobbin winding, stitch variations, seam types, materials, and planning for sewing projects
Your instructor will go over the sewing machine components before guiding you through machine operation. You will first learn how to manually use a sewing machine, then turn the power on and learn the foot pedal as well as stitch and seam types. You will practice sewing in class and then sew a small project yourselves using the skills you’ve learned.
What you get to take home: During this class, you will make your own fitted mask to take home! Pieces will be laser cut for you in advance.
Whom it’s for: Anyone aged 11+ (youth 11-16 must have a guardian present). No experience necessary. New sewers welcome!
What we’ll provide: Sewing machines, thread, scissors, and materials (incl. Fabric, elastic, etc.)
What to bring: A can-do attitude!
Please sign up at least 24 hours in advance. To check availability within 24 hours of this event’s start time, call 833-2-MAKE-IT.
