Pottery Wheel Throwing: One Night Intro

Prepare to throw and let go! Welcome to a pottery wheel throwing class like no other. Unlike other workshops where the focus is on making a tangible end product, the purpose of this class is to develop the beginner clay students themselves.

Learn to shape clay on a spinning wheel, focusing on practice and creativity rather than the pressure of perfection. You’ll make as many pieces as you can, celebrating the lessons learned and unique artistry of each creation. At the end of class we will practice non-attachment by offering our creations for transformation to new life by recycling them.

This class aims to give you an excellent foundation in this material and technique so that you can explore how it can be part of your own creative crafting journey.  Other reasons for taking this class:

  • You’re clay-curious.
  • You’re addicted to wheel throwing.
  • You want more practice, practice, practice.
  • You’re looking for a therapeutic activity to take your mind off things.
  • You sense a philosophical or spiritual connection to crafting and want to explore these thoughts with others.
  • You have some stuff to let go of (don’t we all) and maybe a night of channeling that into a sacrificial clay body is the best thing you can do for yourself.

What you will create: As many pieces as you can in the time allotted. However, all pieces will be RECYCLED at the end of class. Nothing from this class will be fired or returned.

Whom it’s for: Anyone aged 8+ (youth 8-17 must have a guardian present). No experience necessary.

What we’ll provide: We will provide all materials needed including wheels, clay, texture tools, underglaze, glaze, and painting and handbuilding supplies. Note that this class does not involve use of the pottery wheel.

What to bring:  Wear comfortable clothes you don’t mind getting dirty and shoes you can hose off.

Please sign up at least 24 hours in advance. To check availability within 24 hours of this event’s start time, call (206) 659-1726.
