Fabric painting with custom stencils

This class will teach you how to paint custom designs onto fabric like the one above. We will cover how to:

  • Use the vinyl cutter and software to create a stencil
  • Stick this stencil to the piece you want to paint
  • Paint using the stencil and cure the paint with a heat gun

Note: This class is a beta test/trial run. We need your help to work out the details and provide feedback! The class is free but donations to the space are welcome.

What to bring:

  • The design that you want to paint
  • Something made from fabric to paint onto (e.g. canvas shopping bag, old shirt)
    • We have only tested this paint on canvas shoes so far.
    • Assume that this is a trial run/prototype/draft, so do not bring something you care a lot about. We take no responsibility if your fabric piece is damaged.
    • Acetone + a brush + a lot of scrubbing may work for removing existing designs from your piece.
    • We will have some fabric scraps available if you cannot bring something

What you get to take home: Your fabric piece with your design painted onto it.

Whom it’s for: Anyone aged 16+. No experience necessary beyond basic computer skills.

What we’ll provide: Vinyl for making the stencil, paints, use of equipment (brushes, vinyl cutter, laptop with software)
