CAD 101: Fusion 360 for Beginners

Want to bring your ideas into three dimensions? Want to 3D print something new or plan out a wood- or metalworking project? Create new gadgets, doo-hickies, or thingamabobs? This class will introduce you to Computer Aided Design in Fusion 360 to get started!

This class is the first in a series of CAD classes and it is meant for true beginners. Intermediate classes are available for those with some experience and those who want to advance beyond this beginner class.

Your instructor will spend the first half of the class introducing you to the Fusion 360 workspace, how to navigate around your model, creating sketches and extruding shapes, and modifying features. The second half of the class will be a creative design exercise to create a custom object that can be 3D printed at a later time.

Whom it’s for: Anyone aged 11+ (youth 11-16 must have a guardian present) who are comfortable with computers. No experience necessary!

What we’ll provide: Computers with the software already installed.

What to bring: Set up your Fusion 360 account prior to class starting. If you are a hobbyist who is not going to sell items you design, you can get a free personal account: https://www.autodesk.com/products/fusion-360/personal.

What you’ll create: A custom model that you can 3D print!
